NBA Draft: Lakers choose Max Christie with choice no. 35

With the choice n. 35 in the 2022 NBA Draft, the LA Lakers selected Max Christie after acquiring the pick earlier in the day when they sent a future second round and cash to the Magic.

Christie is a 6’5 “tall shooting guard from the state of Michigan who averaged 9.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in his only season as a collegiate. He is widely expected to become a shooter. Chosen from beyond the arc despite converting only 31.7% of his 3 points last season He was also a decent defender of both guards and wings.

According to Atletico 2022 draft guide written by Sam Vecenie, 19 year old is unlikely to be an effective beginner right from the start – something the Lakers say they are not interested in. Vecenie’s research report on Christie also suggests that he must add at least 15 extra pounds to his 190-pound frame and prove that he can shoot reliably enough to see consistent minutes. However, it seems the Lakers are confident that he can eventually transform into a high-impact two-way player with his clean shooting mechanics, high IQ, size and commitment to playing defense.

At least general manager Rob Pelinka and his entire workroom think so:

While he may not be able to do it right away, Christie’s projection as a 3-ed winger could potentially correct one of the Lakers’ most glaring organizational weaknesses. According to Express draftlast March’s scouting report, written by Mike Schmitz, the Michigan State overtime caught the attention of scouts with his surprisingly skillful creation of off-dribble shots, especially in the mid-range, which is something the Lakers say they think he can take with him to the NBA.

With Darvin Ham set to roll out his 4-out-1-in bout with the Lakers this season, Christie’s ability to transform into an elite 3-point shooter could make him the ideal fit for the perimeter-dependent system. . Before he sets foot on the pitch with any of the superstar teammates says he’s excited to joinChristie’s first task will be to impress her new employers at the Las Vegas Summer League, where she is expected to dress from July 7-17.

The Lakers are using their one pick in this year’s draft on Christie and appear to believe he is capable of providing value in the first round despite dropping to 35. And considering how successful the Lakers scouting department has been in finding undervalued talent, it will be interesting to see if they can once again secure a steal in the second round (as another Michigan State alum seems to think about to have).

This is breaking news and will be updated with more information and analysis as it develops, but for now, what do you think of the choice? Let us know in the comments below.
