More news from the softball front:

– Senior catcher Aspyn Godwin has decided to return for another season.

–Maddie Majors, Paige Geraghty, Kelsey Schmidt and Reena Falisi left the program. Majors plans to move from softball. The other three are planning to move.

Dean welcomed Godwin’s decision to return and join what is likely to be tough competition at the receiver.

“She was a really good teammate,” said Dean. “We will have five or six pitchers and we need those people for daily practice. She is nice. She brings energy. She is carefree. She is not demanding. He is someone that players can open up to. You really understand what we are trying to do as staff ”.

Jessie Blaine, who has been battling troublesome injuries for much of last season, will be in the receiver’s mixed bag. Aubrie Lindsey shared time with Godwin last season as a true freshman. Incoming freshman Skylar Elkins, of Locust Grove, Georgia is a highly regarded receiver.

The biggest recruiting catch may be Widra, who was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team 2022 after pitching five goalless, no-relief innings against Maryland and Northwestern No.10, earning the win over the Wildcats.

During her freshman season, Widra appeared in 48 games, seeing time in second and third bases and as a designated player. She had six multi-hit and two multi-RBI games. Of her 27 successes, three were doubles, one was a triple and one was a home run.

In the circle, he made 17 appearances, hitting a 2-0 record with an ERA of 1.73 and 116 strikeouts across 32.1 innings of work.
Widra was the Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year 2021 and Ms. Softball 2021 of the Alabama Sports Writers Association. She has been named four times on the ASWA All-State Team and won the organization’s Pitcher of the Year in 2018 and 2021 and Player of the Year in 2021.

He finished his high school career with a career batting average of .476 with 220 points scored, 165 RBI, 41 doubles, 15 triples, 31 home runs and 132 stolen bases. He had a career record of 120-24 pitches with an ERA of 1.39 and 1,211 strikeouts, 60 shutouts and eight perfect games.

Like last season, weight training will be an important part of the preseason for Auburn players.

“We will get a more specific position,” Dean said. “Last year we tried to make them understand the importance of the weight room. This gives us the opportunity to go further. We will start in the weight room as soon as school starts on the first day ”.

Dean expresses optimism about his fifth full season as an Auburn softball manager.

“I don’t want to put the carriage before the oxen, but I feel really good with this team,” said Dean. “I feel really good about our level of talent. If we manage to stay healthy, I think great things await us. “
