BCI Debates: Boston College Football and EA Sports

Joe: Well friends, with EA Sports reporting college football, what elements do you want included in the BC rendering?

Arthur: I will say that the most ubiquitous thing about the Alumni is the chance to see the campus from the stadium, I hope they work hard to emulate it.

Joe: The best serious suggestion I have would be to make sure to include the red bandana game in season mode or as a playable game, with dialogue about Welles Crowther, a night game, jerseys etc.

Arthur: Another is the Flynn Fund banner, it’s an easily identifiable BC oddity. You don’t think about it, but when you see it you immediately know what and where it is.

Joe: Also, Mr. Brightside in the last minutes of the first half. Even the little peek of the Boston skyline in the distance beyond the Res would be great.

Arthur: I like!

Grant: Having a realistic setting (campus, Boston in the distance) should really be doable. They already had campus showing pretty accurately in older games.

Joe: I’m sure they will only render a band intermission show, so it should probably be Dropkick Murphys.

Arthur: I would also like them to make it Count if they could. I think it would be a good cut scene.

Niraj: I like what I’ve heard so far. In theory I would appreciate if they somehow included the future pavilion (+ Fish Field house of course). Need to show people all the structures. I don’t remember if they showed the Flutie statue and some retired numbers, but that would be nice.

Laura: Any player you’re excited to see represented in the game or teams you’re excited to play BC against?

Arthur: I’d really like to play a BC-Georgia Tech game on Bobby Dodd. I hope the development team is committed to that, that stage is really great. It’s funny, a lot of the stadiums where the resources will be invested (Alabama, Penn State, etc) are so big that the world outside the stadium won’t matter. Opportunities to shine are taking the details of the world out of the mid-sized stadiums and making them more identifiable.

Joe: Oh, I think it would be pretty cool to include Eagle Walk as a pre-game scene or whatever. Perhaps the introductions to BC could be a mix of Eagle Walk, a shot of the mods, or something about Boston with the skyline in the distance.

Laura: Ooo, the Eagle Walk would be a super cool intro scene.

Joe: Or an insight into the ice bucket challenge with a donation promotion to ALS research.

Arthur: With a QR code to donate!

Joe: Even better!

Arthur: I think having flags with the BC program would also be nice. Especially in season mode when the schedule changes from year to year.

Joe: I don’t think “the bell” was a thing the last time they made an NCAA football video game. But it’s definitely a thing now and it would be nice to include it.
Maybe the background audio of fans screaming DOWN FRONT during the bass thirds. I’m not going to lie, I enjoy unleashing a DOWN FRONT when it’s justified, like when people gawp down the aisle in the middle of a play.

Joe: I liked the fact that you could realign conferences at the time and would love to see it added so that we can move everyone to big conferences, but UConn isn’t invited to any of them yet.

What do you hope most in the new NCAA game? Let us know in the comments!
